I came across this post from earlier this year and thought I'd update it with the goals I accomplished and the ones I. . . didn't. Here is goes!
1. Read 10 books-Check! My favorites from this year were Brain Rules for Baby, Making Piece, Bringing up Bebe, and Help, Thanks, Wow. And to think I never use to enjoy non-fiction.
2. Take a trip to Arizona to visit Tam-Check! My mom and I visited her in Arizona and had a splendid time in Sedona. I would love to go back.
3. Take the boys to the zoo-Check! Multiple times thanks to the zoo membership-thanks Grandma Gail, Grandma Cheryl, and Grandpa Karl!
4. Throw a Very Hungry Caterpillar party for Taran's 1st birthday-Check! Fun was had by all.
5. Work on remembering (and acknowledging!) birthdays of friends and family members-Semi-check? Is there such a thing as a semi-check? I think I was pretty good with family birthdays but maybe not all the friends' birthdays I wanted to remember and acknowledge.
6. Put our wedding photos in an album-Nope. No excuse. Just didn't do it.
7. Join a book club-Nope.
8. Buy a pair of really great jeans-Check! Travis convinced me this summer to use some birthday money I received to finally buy a pair of really good jeans. Many thanks to the helpful saleswoman at Nordstrom that helped me find a pair that actually fits.
9. Go on an overnight trip with just Trav-Check! My favorite was a quick visit to Cedarbrook Lodge-an awesome getaway that made us feel like we were far from civilization when in reality we were just a few miles from home. Thanks to the app HotelsTonight for introducing us to Cedarbrook.
10. Try out three new restaurants-Arturo's in Des Moines and Red House in Renton are the only two I can think of. I am sure there were more? Oh, who am I kidding? If we're eating out/ordering in, I am a creature of habit and want the same thing most of the time.
11. Fly a kite at Gas Works Park with the boys-Oops, didn't do this.
12. Throw a Favorite Things party-Nope. So who will invite me to one?
13. Enjoy a more-than-every-three-months Girls' night/outing-I think we were better about it this year! A short trip to Portland with some girlfriends was definitely the highlight of the get togethers-wow we had so much fun! Just don't ask about the cab ride back to the hotel. . .
14. Relax more often by reading, talking to a friend, cleaning, or exercising-Yes to reading and talking to a friend, no to cleaning or exercising. I'm guessing I made this goal in hopes of watching less tv?
15. Plan/budget for our 10-year anniversary trip in 2013-It's in the works!
16. Take, print, and display more family pictures-Half-check? With the purchase of my new (lovely) camera this fall, I have DEFINITELY been taking more pictures but printing them and displaying them. . . well, that's something I need to work on.
17. Take care of our big important Will (I know, I know)-Check! Not a fun thing to do, but definitely one of those "Oh geez-we must really be grown-ups now" moments.
18. Re-assess our budget and see if some things we are hoping for might be possible this year-Working on it and I'm happily working half-time this year!
19. Go outside more often-Hmmmm. . . well, I did bundle the kids up and take them to the park the other day when it was a balmy 45 degrees so maybe I'm getting better at braving the elements?
20. Have friends and family over to visit-Definitely want to do this more.
21. Hold some special new babies-Check, check, check! Some amazing women had babies this year and I was lucky enough to hold them all! Jackson, Sebastian, and Daxton to name a few. Wow-say those names three times fast.
22. Knit something-Check- two scarves. Thanks Teresa for reminding my brain how to knit again.
23. Stress less about things that are out of my control (Notice I didn't say-"Don't stress at all." That is just not realistic for me!)-Ongoing goal for me.
24. Keep things in perspective-I think I did this for the most part.
25. Stick to my list at Target-Semi-check? I am avoiding Target in January-let's see how much money we save!
26. Enroll Odin in a gymnastics class-Check! When we did this at the beginning of the year he had a hard time getting started/feeling comfortable (or so I heard/saw in pictures-Travis took him to all his classes) but with all his jumping around and athletic behavior we've decided to enroll him again in January. This time instead of the class being held at a community center it is at an actual gymnastics facility which I think he will like.
27. Say it out loud-Check! Sometimes it feels odd to say exactly what you're thinking to someone (especially a stranger) but who doesn't appreciate getting a compliment? My dad did this and often times told people they were good at their job (if they were) and it has stuck with me.
28. Go on a family vacation, just the four of us-Nope. Maybe in 2013? Maybe when we are getting a full night's sleep?
29. Throw another awesome outdoor party for Odin's 4th birthday-Check! His bike birthday bash was one of the best days of the summer.
30. Work on understanding my sons and what each one specifically needs to be his best-Check-still working on this every day and am thinking that I will be for a very long time.
